Clinical presentation

Young adult struck on the side of the head. Brief loss of consciousness, then a lucid interval, followed by rapid neurological deterioration.

Key imaging findings

  • Biconvex (lentiform) hyperdense extra-axial collection
  • Does not cross cranial sutures
  • Associated temporal bone fracture and mass effect with midline shift
  • May cross the falx/tentorium (unlike subdural)
