Clinical presentation

Infant with intermittent colicky abdominal pain, drawing up of the legs, a palpable mass and redcurrant-jelly stools.

Key imaging findings

  • Target / doughnut sign on transverse ultrasound — concentric rings of bowel within bowel
  • Pseudokidney sign on longitudinal imaging
  • Trapped mesenteric fat and vessels within the intussusceptum
  • Absent colonic gas / soft-tissue mass on abdominal radiograph
